Playoffs you wanna talk Playoffs?
I love college football as much as the next person. And don't get me wrong I think the playoff system is great. But there are some things that need to be fixed. In my mind, there are two possible solutions. An 8 team or a 24 team option. I see there being a few issues people have with expanding the playoff numbers. The first Is that they don't want to get rid of the bowl game. You won't. Each game will still be a bowl game just it will be playing for something. Second, they will be playing in too many games. Which is crap? In every other division, you have a playoff system that has anywhere from 24-32 teams in it. Adding at most 5 games. Which would make a team play at most 17 games if they play in they were to play in the other conference championship and to make it to the National Championship. In Texas, a team plays 16 games in a high school season if they make it all the way to the playoffs. Then in the pros, the regular season is 16 weeks. So you if a team is good they will have people going pro and play that many games anyway so why not prepare them for it. My 8 team playoff would be the winner of all 5 power conferences (Big 12, Pac 12, Big 10, ACC, and SEC) then the next best three teams that are out there regardless of which conference they are in. That way you'll have at least one team from every conference playing for a chance to be the national champion. Then some other teams that were good enough to be a top team but maybe didn't have the best conference to get them noticed. Then all the other teams that are bowl eligible will still have all the other bowls that they can play in. In the 24 team bracket, it would be modeled after the. FCS playoffs. The top 8 teams get byes while everyone else will have to play in. With 6 teams in each "region" playing for their spot. Basically, it would be every top 25 teams in the rankings at the end of the season. Regardless if they were a conference champion or not. If they are ranking 1-24 they are in. No arguing who should be in and who shouldn't. Then all the leftover teams will get the rest of the bowl games.
