The Biggest Honor in all of College Football
With college football is coming to a close it means one thing. Award season. Last night was the annual college football award show. giving the countries best the recognition that they deserve. Many people think the biggest award to get is the Heisman. Some may even say it is the Maxwell Award is the biggest. But what if i were to tell you about the biggest award there is that you didn't even know existed? This one wont show up on the ESPN Articles, it wont show up with any of their highlights, there honestly is no way to really gage who is doing it the best. That award is the Mortell Holder of the Year Award (HOTY).
Thats right the best award to get is the Holder of the Year. These guys have to be flawless. If they are being mentioned in any broadcast that means that they are not doing their job and messed something up.
This award is a fairly new one. With it only being around for 3 years you could say that these holders are the "Elite of the Elite" in the holding world. The First winner was a is who this award is named after. Peter Mortell who played at the University of Minnesota, also played for the Green Bay Packers as a punter and of course a place holder. After Winning and playing it the NFL he decided to start the Foundation that gives the award out every year. The winner gets to raise money and donate it to a charity of their choice.
The Second winner was Garret Moores from the University of Michigan. He also splits duty at QB when he is not holding a flawless ball. So if there was ever a fire call you knew the job was going to get done and possible work out in their favor. But how many times do fire calls actually work out.
This is what brings us to this year. The Mortell Holder of the Year goes to PH/QB Connor McGinnis from the University of Oklahoma, who graces us all with an acceptance speech with an award winning attire that even the red carpets would be jealous of. Guarded by his "Henchmen" aka his long snapper and kicker. They accepted the award and everyone have a good laugh.
