Rangers Opening Day Pitcher- Zack Greinke
The winter meetings are in full swing. Teams are talking trades. Guys are being shipped around the league to try and better their careers or being used as a bargaining chip to get other players for their previous team. One item keeps coming across my phone sitting here at work.
At first I thought this is crazy why would they do that and who would they have to give up to make that trade go through? Usually it is easy for me to think about it but the teams in questions are the two teams I really follow those being the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Texas Rangers.
We all know the Rangers shipped out their only ace this past trade deadline over to LA in the trade of Darvish for some decent prospects. Then after they didn't win the bidding war for Ohtani they really needed a stud pitcher. This years free agency is more position player based and in my opinion thats not what they need.
The Diamondbacks have a pretty solid Ace in Zack Greinke that came over 2 years ago from the Dodgers during free agency and after a little bit of a lul his first year has settled in to a groove. I got to go see him pitch in person this summer and it was just what you would expect from the ace of the staff. The Diamondbacks however do need hitting in my opinion they have Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Owens, and AJ Pollock but other then Goldschmidt the others are all contact hitters.
The Rangers would have to give up some power or some prospects which they could do with Willie Calhoun who came over in the Darvish trade. Maybe you could go straight up and put Gallo in the mix. Another good prospect they could throw in would be Josh Morgan a catcher/outfield guy who could help fill a couple spots at once. That would be to out there because they Have Chris Herman who is that exact same kind of player who serves as the teams back up catcher and 4th outfielder.
If this trade were to go through it would really benefit both sides. give the Rangers a starting pitcher that they so desperately need. while it would give the Diamondbacks a much needed bat for their line-up.
